Dr. Stephen Pu, 2025 Dr. Masae Toyochi Hsieh Arts Educator Prize
Dr. Stephen Pu Music Scholarship Prize
In 2025, Dr. Stephen Pu was recognized with a distinguished honor from Asian Hall of Fame. He received the endowed Dr. Masae Toyochi Hsieh Arts Educator Award for his lifetime achievements as a music director, composer, performer, educator, and community advocate. The award also established the Dr. Stephen Pu Music Scholarship Prize. Every year, one high school student would receive a $500 scholarship and music gift bag (with Apple iPad, headphones, other gifts) in perpetuity through Asian Hall of Fame.
Dr. Pu passed on January 30, 2026 at the age of 42. In lieu of flowers, his family invited their friends and family to contribute towards the Dr. Stephen Pu Music Scholarship Prize. 74 donors cumulatively raised a total of $10,107.81 which increased the endowed fund. The total number of scholarship recipients increased to three every year, in perpetuity.
To honor the inspiring legacy of Dr. Stephen Pu, Asian Hall of Fame is pleased to invite San Gabriel Valley music students of all racial and ethnic backgrounds to apply for the Dr. Stephen Pu Music Scholarship Prize. Students must be 16 years old when they receive the scholarship prize. Preference is given to students on free or reduced meal plans. Please check back soon for the official scholarship application.
